UQMSA presents....... (cue drums) MAMAK NIGHT! =)

 

 

Date: 1st June 2011 (Wednesday)

Time: 630pm for a 7pm start

Venue: BEL Faculty Rooftop Terrace, Colin Clark (Building 39)

 

For all you Malaysians missing your favorite foods from back home, oh boy do we have a feast lined up for you! And knowing how us Malaysian eat, we're ordering heaps too! 

 

Mamak Night Menu:

1) Rice with Chicken Curry and Cabbage

2) Sambal Ikan

3) Mee Goreng Mamak

4) Spaghetti Goreng

5) Bubur Pulut Hitam

6) Hot Teh Tarik

 

You can get your ticket from our booth which will be right next to STA Travel. We'll be there on 27th Friday (TOMORROW!!!!!!!),30th Monday and 31st Tuesday from 10am-2pm. 

 

Ticket Prices are as follows:

Members - $8

Non-members - $14

 

Spaces are limited so rush over to our booth to buy your tickets as soon as possible! You don't want to be the only person missing out on this event, do you?

UQ’s Diversity Week (Malaysia)

Wanna know more about Malaysia's culture, places to visit or simply missing the Malaysian Food? Come and join us on this coming Tuesday! UQ's Diversity Week, in which the university celebrates the diversity of cultures on campus. The Cultural Fiesta organized by the UQ Union is part of Diversity Week, and aims to showcase the cultural displays of the different countries that UQ's international students hail from. The event will feature student clubs showcasing their natural foods, costumes, dance, plus roving performers, stalls, dancing dragons and more. The outdoor celebration in Campbell Place between 10am-2pm is an open invitation to all UQ students to join in the fun.

And leading proudly will be our Malaysian Stall, featuring our wonderful cultural diversity, our awesome traditional costumes, and samplings of the best food in the world: Malaysian Food!

Jom Watch AFL

Salam Sejahtera and Hi everyone ! 

Hope things have been awesome, and that the mid-semester exams are all out of the way already :) If you've been missing our past events,  no need to fret anymore as our next big excursion is now here! UQMSA will be organizing Jom Watch AFL ! , in which we will all be watching and cheering the Brisbane Lions at The Gabba  :D

A bit about Aussie Footy
Australian Rules Football, or Aussie Footy for short, is the one of the most popular sports in this sports-obsessed nation which is Australia. The game itself is a unique blend of soccer, Gaelic football, and rugby, and is considered as one of the unique icons of Australian culture. 

And like surfing in the Gold Coast, or patting a koala at Lone Pine, experiencing a live Footy match is something that should not be missed by anyone in Australia!

Okay, enough with exciting you, details of the event are below :)

UQMSA's "Jom Watch AFL ! "

When               :       21st May 2011 (Sat)

Venue              :      The Gabba Stadium, Wooloongabba.

Game               :      Brisbane Lions VS North Melbourne

Ticket Price   :      Special Student's Package ~ $32 per person

         Includes :       - Free transportation, to and from the Gabba stadium
                                  - Food vouchers to the value of $5.50 and a beverage voucher to the value of  $6.60
                                  - Match Tickets.

Tentative Schedule for the day:

5.30pm    Kumpul at UQ bus-stop

5.45pm    Depart for the Gabba

UQMSA is organizing Makan Night 2011! , specially catered for those who crave for some authentic Malaysian Food. Nasi Lemak, Nasi Briyani, Mee Goreng, Ondeh-ondeh, you name it! This is the perfect chance for you foodies, if not Malaysian food lovers out there, to enjoy a scrumptious meal, nevertheless catch up with one another on a lovely Wednesday evening as well. UQMSA will also be collaborating with UQ Singapore Student’s Society (UQSSS) in this event which brings you guys with a larger variety of food to feed up all hungry souls. J

Rock Climbing, Sem 1 2011

Now that one fun (Learn-to-surf) has passed, here's time for another!
We're having Rock Climbing NEXT SATURDAY on April 2nd. Details below:

Venue: ROCKSPORT 224 Barry Parade, Fortitude Valley
Time:   10am (goes on for 2.5 hours, you're free to stop anytime)
Cost:     $18 (each includes lessons n harness), 5AUD (climbing shoes for hire)

Learn to Surf, Sem 1 2011

Salam sejahtera and hi everyone :)

After a very successful Welcoming BBQ to kick off our semester, it's the time of the year for our "Learn to Surf" event before the weather gets too cold :) 

Date    : 26/3/2011 (Saturday)
Venue : Currumbin Beach + Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast
Time   : 8.00 a.m gather at UQ Chancellor Place Bus Stop, St Lucia

 

Itinerary:

08.00am	Gather at UQ meeting point
08.15am	Leave UQ
10.00am	Arrive at Currumbin
10.30am	Lessons begin
12.00pm	End of lessons
12.30pm	End of lessons
12.45pm	Arrive at Surfers Paradise
01.00pm	Lunch + Jalan-jalan
03.00pm	Leave for UQ
05.00pm	Adventure ends

 

Members Price (Includes transport)

Surfers - $45 (must have basic knowledge of swimming for safety purpose)

Non-surfers- $22

Currumbin Alley’s sheltered layout makes it less exposed and open to the prevailing Southerly winds, creating both perfect Learn to Surf conditions and challenging long rides for the experienced surfer.

A wet suit and surfboard will be provided by the surf school. Learn to Surf lessons include instruction in paddling, wave catching, various prone to feet methods, surfboard design and Surf Safety.

PS: Non-surfers will get to laze around the beach and play some games while surfers try to 'Hang ten" :D

Hello People! Here’s an overdue update from UQMSA 2010!

As you all know, we had our AGM on the 12th of October. Everyone’s very eager to know who’s the next committee for year 2010/2011 right? I’m not going to reveal it to you until you get to the end of the post. Juuuusttt kiddinggg. No actually, I’m not kidding.

Anyways, THANK YOU guys for turning up for the AGM and exercised your rights to nominate and vote for your next UQMSA EXCO Members. Several valuable inputs were also given by members. Ribuan Terima Kasih for that!

Its been a very rewarding year for the committee of 2010. Seeing you guys enjoying the events we’ve organized and the thank-you-s from you guys was really what kept us going. So we will also like you guys to do the same for the next committee! UQMSA ROCKS YOUR SOCKS YO!

UQMSA Mid Autumn Fetival Movie Night

It's time-out now that the mid-sem break is on its way! UQMSA will be screening a great Chinese movie by the name of 'Ip Man' and having mooncakes and Chinese tea to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival! :) The movie will have English subtitles so come along and join the fun!

UQMSA Social LaserForce!!!

Hello People!

Stress with Midsems and assignment due dates? Here’s something exciting to look forward to!

UQMSA will be organizing a "UQMSA Social Laserforce" game. Laserforce is a live action laser tag game (Think paintball but with laser instead).

Details:
Date : 25th September 2010 (Saturday)
Time : 5.30pm to 9.30pm
Location : Laserforce, Woolloongabba.
Cost : AUD 10 (include dinner + drinks; tentative menu is nasi minyak ayam masak merah + a can of coke)
Transport: Bus 209, 269 or 109. Gather at UQ Lakes first at 4.40pm

Game format:
6 teams.
Each team consist of 8 players.
Members can choose to select own team members or leave it to be arranged by the organizing committee.
Round-robin format. Each team will get to face the other 5 teams. So expect to play at least 5 games. Would have more if time permits.
UQMSA has the whole location booked out to us. So expect full privacy and come have fun with our fellow members.

Those interested can come to our booth next Tuesday (14th) and Wednesday (15th) at 11.00am to 2.00pm our usual spot at the union at the side of STA Travel to register.
Members must pay the full amount of AUD10 while registering. Deposits will not be accepted.

Come along, have heaps of fun and release some stress with us! :D

Hi Fellow Members!

Hope first day of uni was good for everyone! :D

As the semester starts, so does our list of activities for you guys by UQMSA!

Last semester we went out to the sea and did some surfing, this time around, we’re going to see some Whales yo!

There’s another AUG event near the horizon!

Yes, on the 23rd of July 2010, AUG will hold a WELCOME PARTY !! This party will be held at our office, level 1, suite 1, 155 Queen Street, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be lots of food and lots of people! Also, since this is called a welcome party, you can find new faces and new friends to talk to! The dress-code for this party is CYAN / LIGHT BLUE. We want you to show up and be as BLUE as possible! Be creative, be imaginative, be the one who catches everyone’s attention! You will be remembered (for better or worse...) but the most important thing is that you will have fun!

Mamak Night Is Here!

The much awaited, biggest event of the semester is finally arriving!!!! Get your early birds tickets this week at our booth to get your hands/mouth on:
