UQMSA Interview Workshop (27/8/2011)

A couple of weeks back, UQMSA put together an Interview Workshop Session for our members. It's a follow up to the Resume Writing Workshop that was organized in the first semester. The overall aims of these workshops are to prepare our members to stand the best chance of getting employed, no matter what field of work they are interested in.

UQMSA would like to take this opportunity to wish a special thank you to Celia, who was kinda enough to facilitate the workshop on her own personal time.

Only UQMSA could fill up a room this size on a Saturday this fast! All 60 available slot were filled up within 2 days of registration opening.

As part of the workshop, there was an interactive section for members to practice answering some common interview questions they are likely to face. I don’t know how our members are going to do as potential interviewees but with stares like these they could always work as interviewers!

GRADUAN Australian Recruitment Drive 2011

Salam Sejahtera and Hey dear members,

Your UQMSA Comittee has brought you the Resume-writing Workshop, and are in the midst of organizing the Interview Workshop. And now we ask the question: Are you graduating soon? Are you right now considering your future career path and options?

 Well you’re in luck! UQMSA will be working with GRADUAN to bring you the GRADUAN Australian Recruitment Drive 2011! Time to put what you’ve learned in these workshops to good good use!

Whats it all about?

GRADUAN will be in Brisbane from the 12-13th October 2011, and will be accompanied by representatives of the top Malaysian companies who will be here to conduct networking sessions during the recruitment fair, and also to conduct interview sessions with applicants who have submitted resumes. On offer will be graduate and internship positions with THE top-performing and biggest names in Corporate Malaysia!

 Graduate Positions

Fresh graduates are all eager and have great potential, but require the proper head-start in their career paths. If you ARE graduating at the end of this year, get YOUR head-start with the leading companies from Malaysia in YOUR field by landing the graduate position you’re aiming for, even before you graduate!

Internships

If you’re finishing your 3^rd, 2^nd, or even 1^st year of university studies, the coming 3-month summer break will be a GOLDEN opportunity to obtain an internship program with Malaysian companies who are leaders in their fields. What do you need to do?

Interview Workshop Teaser

Dear Members,

Last semester we brought you the Resume Writing Workshop, which would have got your foot in the door of landing that dream job you've always wanted. 

Well, the company was obviously impressed and now its going to come down the the last hurdle between you and that job! 

THE INTERVIEW!

To help you out in landing your dream position, UQMSA will be organizing an Interview Skills Workshop on this 27th August (sat)for our members.

What do you need an Interview Workshop for? Aren't interviews about just showing up and having a chat?

The interview is going to be the deal-breaker between you or the next guy getting that job, do you really want to turn up unprepared?! 

During the workshop we'll be going through:

- How to go about preparing for an interview

- How to respond to the questions you can expect 

- Some tips and tricks to provide the best representation of yourself, be it in your dressing or mannerism

Do you really want to leave it all up to chance?

With the job market being this competitive, every little step helps!

Every good deed helps to kindle this feeling of joy within us

This post does not include bikinis and swimming trunks that surely inspire a worthy trip or a perfect excuse to hit the beach to attempt a new skill: surfing, or rock climbing gears attached to your bodies to conquer the climbing walls. But it DOES capture the atmosphere of enthusiasm in a meeting room where the Volunteer Refugee Tutoring and Community Support (VoRTCS) Interview and Information session took place two Sundays ago. With all ears and hearts wide open, the volunteers were prepared to receive the gist of it all from THIS MAN in the PICTURE BELOW:

Allow me to introduce the presenter of the day and manager of the VORTCS team – Mr Julian Evans, or Jules.

Do not be deceived by this solemn picture of him. Believe me, this British bloke has the most laid back and witty character that can absolutely make you drop your books or pens to just listen to his persuasive speech.  His laid back character was consistently portrayed over the session as he would insist that we addressed him as Jules rather than Mr Evans. He started the session by sharing his philosophy of volunteering, quoting, “It is most important to have fun while you’re volunteering and working with your team”. His simple justification was that one should dwell in spirit of fun [and giving] in any voluntary work; otherwise one would not enjoy it, and loses sight of the purpose if the heart was not stirred. Well, something like that =P This drove away the tension in the air. Jules went on to enlighten us further on the expectations of being a refugee volunteer tutor. The majority, if not all, were positively swayed by Jules’ short and sweet presentation, resulting in a large number of sign-ups for this exciting voluntary work. He really sold the Refugee Tutoring Program to us.

Only some paper work and submission of the required documents before the volunteers are well on their way to receive their Blue Cards and begin the journey as volunteer refugee tutors! J

Resume Writing Workshop

Hi members,

 

Are you graduating soon? Going to start looking for that dream job? Or maybe your just thinking about doing an internship?

 

Before you can even hope to land any of these opportunities, you're going to have to stand out from the crowd. Hundreds if not thousands of other people are going to be competing for the exact same opportunities as you are.

You don't even have a Resume yet I hear you say? 

That's alright, then this workshop is exactly what you need to get yourself started! We'll be going over the basic of what a Resume should look like to put you on the right path.

 

How about if you already have a Resume?

Well, even if you already have one you could always polish it up a little. It'll make your case that much stronger to your potential employers. There'll be loads of hints along to way to make your's just that little bit more special!

When the world is this competitive every little helps!
