Byron Bay

Byron Bay is a confluence of the hot, the adventurous, the topless...and a bus- full of Malaysians. The sun decided to shine that day so the place was absolutely gorgeous. We visited the light house, walked down the cliff to the easternmost point of mainland Australia, hiked through the forest, walked on the beach, swam in the ocean, chilled out in the sand, had a nice lunch, went window shopping...you know, the usual.

It was great, though.

Social Volleyball

UQMSA organised a great game of beach volleyball on Saturday, 15th March 2008. A lot of our members showed up, slapped a ball around and some even got to eat sand. It was a great show of sporting spirit where newcomers had a go at playing beach volleyball wholeheartedly and people who had experience gave tips and encouraged the newbies and their team members. At the end of it, the sun had set and a group of people had the court booked for 6pm and kicked us out but some of us kept on playing on the grass hitting the ball to each other. UQMSA went around collecting gold coin donations for the good cause of the club and to help pay for court hire and future events, and we got quite a decent amount, including $2 Singapore dollars! People, gold coin donation doesn't literally mean the coin has to be GOLD...it just means donation of any amount, in Aussie dollars! So, next time the collecting bag goes around, you know what to toss in there. No more SGD, or, the outphased RM1 coins, ok! but whomever that was, thanks anyway; your heart is in the right place...right?

Some Malaysians can't wait for food...

Well actually... most Malaysians can't wait for food :)

New friends... old friends...

Games

Playing soccer while holding Malaysian flag... how patriotic that is!

After BBQ... (exclusively for Committee 2008 members)

The person with the above shirt (guess who?) invited all committee members to chill-LAH...

Hoho... that person is Mr President Linggesh-LAH. As you can see, he's explaining ICE-CREAM to the girls... and certainly the girls listened to him intently.

Anyway, here's my YUMMY ice-cream!

And that's all for now. Adios.

UQMSA Welcoming BBQ Part I

(Not to be confused with MASCA welcoming barbecue over the weekend. If you guys have forgotten, yes, we did serve free chicken wings, sausages and lime cordial on the 1st of March at Southbank parklands.)

The committee...well, Yu Ting at least got up at the break of dawn to secure us a couple of pits for the bbq. The rest of the committee members turned up around 8 and began preparation for the massive cookout: decorations, a quick shopping trip to the city for emergency supplies, mixing the drink in a massive red 'tong' and the tiresome job of cooking a few hundred chicken wings on top of a pit that didn't work as well as it should.

The hot, sunny weather did us all a favour: people came en masse, Malaysians and non-Malaysians alike and passers-by stared at our glorious pile of food hungrily and shamelessly. It was a festive atmosphere and everyone was in good spirits: a couple of frisbees were tossed around, the football was kicked about (passed to people and with delicious vengeance in mind, at those pesky ibises) and most people went home happy and sated.

Watch this space: more photos will be coming soon. Who knows, you might be in it! We could like to take this opportunity to apologise for the delays, undercooked food etc. We'll do e

For those who remember, it shall resemble the Merdeka Gathering we had last year and wasn't that heaps of fun?

Just a quick reminder, please bring along mats (tikar) or anything you'd like to sit on as well as umbrellas (if you are afraid of it being too hot, but it's quite shady there) and whatever else that would help you feel comfortable in this massive picnic come-together!

Don't hesitate to contact Trina (04 3233 8982; trinatoh@gmail.com) or any MASCA member if you need any further information.

See you there!
