**DO YOU WANT TO BAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?**Have you ever wandered around the city or anywhere at night and passed by a homeless person who was covered with blankets, trying to keep warm? You wanted to help, but you didn't know how? Well, here's your chance to help because UQMSAs The Homeless Project: Bake & Donate is coming your way!!**

This coming month, we are organising a bake sale, raising funds to buy essential items for the homeless. We will also be distributing the items PERSONALLY to them! So how can YOU help? 

Come join us for:

SESSION 1: BAKING & FUNDRAISING

Date: 22nd August 2016 (Monday)
Time: 10 am – 3 pm (shifts available)
Venue: Chemistry Building (68) Courtyard

Volunteers can choose to help us fundraise by selling our baked goodies!

OR

SESSION 2: PACKAGING ITEMS TO DONATE

Date: 24TH August 2016 (Wednesday)
Time: 6 pm – 7:30 pm OR 8:00 – 9:30 pm
Venue: Hawken Engineering Building (50)

We will be packaging ITEMS bought using money earned in the bake sale!

Finally, after all that hard work, we are going on a VISIT to distribute these essential items PERSONALLY :D

Venue: Gather at UQ Chancellors Bus Stop at 6:30 PM

UQMSA & UQ WASABI Tours 2016 & QUTMySAs Ekka Hangout!

Have you ever thought of going on a HOLIDAY in the middle of the semester?  

Would you like to explore other cultures while you’re at it? 

Well, UQMSA and UQ WASABI are having a tour to JAPAN and MALAYSIA respectively on our very first collaborative event – 

UQMSA & UQ WASABI Tours!

When? 19th of August 2016 (Friday)

Venue: Holt Room, UQ

Time: 6pm - 8.30pm

With FOOD included, it’s unbelievable to have such a price for such an awesome night!

UQMSA members will be brought on a TOUR TO JAPAN, where you can be surprised by kendama, a ball and cup game and various celebration, history and traditions of Japan. Try on a Yukata or Kimono while learning japanese greetings. 

There will be yakisoba accompanied with wagashi, japanese sweets and chocolate with a bottle of ramune, while dancing a japanese dance.

But this isn’t the end of the list! Stay tuned for PERFORMANCES and a LUCKY DRAW SESSION to wrap up the night :)

Our volunteer shifts will be between 5pm and 9pm, with various roles including food serving and introducing the Malaysian culture to the members from UQ WASABI!

A big shout out to the QUT Malaysian Students Association! They're giving discounted Ekka tickets for QUTMySAs Ekka Hangout which will be happening this Sunday, 14th August.

What's the plan?

1. Gather at Central Station at 12:30 pm

2. Join us for Ekka! (strawberry sundaes, animal boulevard, gourmet plaza and more)  

3. Free and easy between 4-6 pm

4. Watch the awesome fireworks at 7:45pm!

Sponsorship Convener Recruitment AND Meet & Greet 2.0!

We hope that week 3 is coming well for everyone. We have TWO EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENTS!

1. SPONSORSHIP CONVENER RECRUITMENT!

Ever wish to be part of the team that drives Malaysian Students in UQ? Ever wanted to serve the Malaysian Student Community? Well look no further, UQMSA is currently recruiting our next SPONSORSHIP CONVENERS for the 2016/17 term! :D
Our Sponsorship Conveners play a significant role in gathering funds and support from our sponsors as well as maintaining relationships with them for the best interests of both UQMSA members and the sponsors, which is crucial for the smooth running of our society. To ensure that they are available for the Sponsorship Drive during Summer Break, a few candidates will be recruited early in the semester whom will be contesting at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in October. TWO of them will be officially elected based on members’ votes during the meeting. Applicants will be interviewed by selected UQMSA committee on the 17th or 18th of August (Wednesday or Thursday)!

2. Meet & Greet 2.0!

We would like to announce our next event coming up is MASCA Queenslands Meet & Greet 2.0 this SATURDAY! This event where Malaysian students from all over Queensland mingle, relax and of course, MAKAN! The theme for this event is MALAYSIA: I, ME AND MY FOOD. We will also be having other Malaysian Student Organisations (MSOs), so do check them out as well as their events and explore the richness of our diverse Malaysian cultures :) Enjoy awesome performances, play some games and stand a chance to be a LUCKY DRAW WINNER*!

Relay Race Explanation and Registration

The Relay Race will be held on the grounds of Southbank at the same location as the BBQ site, and participation is just $2 per person! So... 

How do I / my team sign up?

1.     Gather a team of 5 people or sign up individually, as pairs, or with three or four people. If you’re signing up individually or have less than 5 people in your team, you will be placed into a team by our committee.

2.     Register here: http://l.uqmsa.org/relayrace16 by 4th August (Thursday) before 12pm!

3.     Receive a confirmation email with more information regarding the Race on the afternoon of the 4th of August (Thursday)

Only 5 pre-registered teams are accepted so it’s on a first-come-first-serve basis!

We have exciting events lined up for this semester, so be sure to come and check it out at our booth during Semester 2 MARKET DAY. We will be accepting UQMSA membership registration during this time. The event details are as follow :-

Booth location: Booth 96 (near Alumni Court & Goddard Building)
