an internationally-acclaimed movie. (English-subtitled)
The film portrays the lives, struggles, and adventures of three Primary 6 pupils who are placed in the academically inferior EM3 stream (which, as a result of parliamentary debates following the release of the film, was abolished in 2008). This satirical comedy criticises the Singaporean education system and social attitudes in Singapore, including the competitive kiasu (fear of losing) mentality and over-obedience to authority.
"I Not Stupid" won several awards, including the Best Chinese Film Award, at the Golden Bauhinia Awards, and the Best Chinese Humanitarian Film Award at the 2002 Taiwan Golden Torch Awards. The film was also nominated for Best Asian Film at the Hong Kong Film Awards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Not_Stupid

(*) 15.00-17.00 Movie Screening 2 at Schonell Theatre UQ ->> Indonesia: "Apa Apa Dengan Cinta?"
a 2002 Indonesian film directed by Rudy Soedjarwo. The Indonesian title is actually an untranslatable word play, as Cinta (Indonesian for "love") is also the name of the main character. As such the title can be translated as "What's Up With Love?" as well as "What's Up With Cinta (the person)."
The adventure of What's Up with Love? lies in the question of whether damages caused by the "forbidden romance" were reversible, and whether it was possible for Cinta to remain faithful to her girlfriends without losing Rangga. The film is coloured with Indonesian mainstream as well as sidestream values, elements of classical culture and politics, real issues encountered in teen life, and unique adventures and surprises.
