Blog: Of Rock Climbing and Malaysians Conquering the Top!

It was one of the Saturdays where one would just sleep in, enjoying the first weekend of the Easter/mid semester breaky. However, that was not the case for 24 enthusiastic Malaysian youngsters! Armed with water bottles and a curiosity as to what they were about to face, Kian our coordinator marched us down to the Rosksport Centre situated at the Valley. “Wow!So high ah!!!” and “Nice!!!Let’s go man!!” were the common catch phrases amongst our participants as they made their way into the centre. After a safety briefing and a quick harness check, everyone could be seen looking around eagerly for a place to start off. As many of them were first timers, it was a sight (or most probably a nightmare for a few of them who were afraid of heights!)as they enthusiastically made their way up the walls.

A few Spidermen (whoops and not to forget a few Spiderwomen!!) were adventurous enough to scale the more challenging walls, equipped with tinier rocks and of course a more slanted wall.

With much encouragement and people on the floor giving directions as to where to put your right foot or your left arm on the different colours of rocks, many made it to the top, exhausted, but with an accomplished smile on their faces! MALAYSIA BOLEH!WHOOHOO!!!!!!:D

Towards the end of the sessions, one could see members dragging their feet up the stairs, tired but still chatting excitedly about their rock climbing experience. Complaints of having aches and pains were heard across the room(Our very own Kian’s arms had veins almost popping out of his skin!!). All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves being Spiderman or Spiderwoman for a day with UQMSA. Special thanks to members for participating and for joining us in our event! Mount Everest anyone??:) (Ivan’s totally in!!!:D)

Warmest Regards,

UQMSA Committee.
