I am also a Penang kia, so if anyone wants to have a coffee with me to reminiscence about Penang Laksa or Char Koay Teow, you're more than welcome :) It has been a truly wonderful experience meeting new friends and being able to serve fellow Malaysians for the past year through UQMSA, and all I can say is that its a privilege to be part of this great committee for the second year in a row. We sincerely hope to give our fellow Malaysians fun and beneficial activities for the year to come, to contribute to the welfare of our fellow Malaysians, and to do our part in promoting Malaysian culture to our UQ community. We hope to see you around!

Greetings nossypeoplethatwanttoknowmoreaboutme, the name is Jiansheng and I'm from a little town called Sandakan in East Malaysia. I'm currently pursuing my Bachelor of Commerce in UQ and enjoying my life in Brisbane which did I mention, is pretty awesome. I like to say that I'm nice and helpful but that's really up to you guys to perceive. I've got tons of interest, I enjoy working out at the gym, chilling out around the lake in UQ, and most of all playing a game of paintball with my friends ( ah... the moment when you the shot you made hit the target's head is just amazing) or when all fails, lazer tag, but that's really just a coward's game. Sorry Barney Stinson hehe. I've just recently joined the UQMSA committee as a Social Convener, what is a Social Convener Jiansheng you say? Well Ask.com says that I'm "responsible for gathering people around a social cause in an effort to address that cause." Unofficially I'm the first person that you'll comes in contact, if you ever need anything from UQMSA. I hope that your stay in UQ will be an amazing experience and I'll see you guys soon.

Hello everybody! =)

I’ve only been in Brisbane for about 6 months but I’m enjoying it here. Now if only they have mamaks, life would be complete! I’m an avid follower of football and I love playing futsal so if anyone ever wants to play, just give me a call! I’m also into all sorts of tech stuff. Tech toys are just so cool =D.

Overall I’m a pretty laid back, sociable person so if you see me around just say HI! I’m more than happy to help all my fellow Malaysian with settling down over here.

Hiii! If there is one word I’d tattoo on me it’ll be Exuberance. If there is one quote that makes most of my decisions it’ll be ‘What’s the worst that could happen’. If there is one question I’d randomly ask u & i on a train to somewhere, it’ll be ‘What’s the one thing you would dare to dream if you knew you wouldn’t fail?’ I perceive education as an ongoing process. I believe in the sayings – no pain no gain; no deposit, no return :)

People who know me call me Jess instead of Jessica, because they know I much prefer that. So please call me Jess! :)

Random Jess Fact 1: Too much cheese & sugar in my system makes me dizzy (:

Random Jess Fact 2: That picture of me is taken with the oldest cow! hee hee. If we haven’t met, I’d like to meet you :)

The film portrays the lives, struggles, and adventures of three Primary 6 pupils who are placed in the academically inferior EM3 stream (which, as a result of parliamentary debates following the release of the film, was abolished in 2008). This satirical comedy criticises the Singaporean education system and social attitudes in Singapore, including the competitive kiasu (fear of losing) mentality and over-obedience to authority.
"I Not Stupid" won several awards, including the Best Chinese Film Award, at the Golden Bauhinia Awards, and the Best Chinese Humanitarian Film Award at the 2002 Taiwan Golden Torch Awards. The film was also nominated for Best Asian Film at the Hong Kong Film Awards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Not_Stupid

The adventure of What's Up with Love? lies in the question of whether damages caused by the "forbidden romance" were reversible, and whether it was possible for Cinta to remain faithful to her girlfriends without losing Rangga. The film is coloured with Indonesian mainstream as well as sidestream values, elements of classical culture and politics, real issues encountered in teen life, and unique adventures and surprises.

UQMSA AGM 2009

Respected Members,

The year is almost reaching its end, as is the term of the current UQMSA committee. Therefore, UQMSA will hold its 2009 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 25th of September 2009 (Friday). The details of the AGM are as follows:

Date: 25th September 2009 (Friday)

Time: 4.30 PM – 6.30 PM (1630 hrs – 1830 hrs)

Venue: Able Smith Lecture Theatre (Building 23)

The AGM will be an avenue for members to become more involved in the association for the year 2010 by becoming a part of the committee. We hope that our members will free up some of their time to attend the AGM as these future committee members will be at the forefront in portraying the Malaysian spirit in Queensland.

Although we have set a date for our AGM, rest assured, we still have other activities lined up for this term. These include Makan Nite in conjunction with the UQ Singapore Students' Society, Sunshine Coast Trip and Lantern Festival. Our reason for having the AGM earlier is to avoid holding it in the final hectic weeks of the semester when a lot of assignments will be due.

A list of the positions and position descriptions will be sent out in our next e-mail.

Thank you for your participation thus far in our events. We hope to see you at our AGM this 25th of September.

Regards,

UQMSA Committee

UQMSA's Mamak Nite

Dear members,

Mamak Nite is coming again. This year, we will have two Mamak Nites for each semester and the first one is just around the corner. This time around, we will have a new format for Mamak Nite. Instead of the tried and tested method of selling to whoever can arrive the fastest, we will be selling tickets to the event and ticket sales will be on a first come first served basis. Exotic Malaysian food will be served and this will be a members only event as our sign of appreciation towards all of you. Instead of writing long sentences, the summary of all the information is as follows:

Event:
Mamak Nite
Date:
 29 May 2009
Time:
5.30 (1730) - 8.00 (2000) PM
Place:
Rooftop Terrace (BEL Faculty)
Menu:
Mee GorengBeef RendangChicken Curry, Steamed Rice and kuih-muih as desserts. We would also be serving Teh Tarik during the night..
Vegetarion Menu: Available (dhal and vegetarian suitable desserts)

7.00 per person

This will be a
Members-Only Event and Non-Members are advised to sign up as members to purchase the tickets.

Remember, ladies and gentlemen, tickets are very limited and we would advised our members to secure their places early. In our opinion, the price is very cheap, considering the types of food that you will get and the venue of the event (Rooftop Terrace).

Our ticket booth will be on these following days:

  • 26th May (TBC, subject to ticket availability)
  • 27th May (TBC, subject to ticket availability)

To dearest members,

A message from MASCA:

Hi guys,

MASCA QLD in association with MASCA from other states will be organising the inaugural Oceania Summit and Games 09. Therefore MASCA QLD is looking for participations from its members to be part of the Australian contingent. Among the actitvities that are going to be held in New Zealand are:

1. Soccer
2. Netball
3. Rugby
4. Basketball
5. Volleyball
6. Takraw
7. Badminton
8. Frisbee
9. Debate

Thus we need participants who can participate in atleast one of the activities listed above to register with us and be part of the Australian team. Members who wants to join the event as supporters are mostly welcomed. A follow up on the finalised program tentative will be available in the near future. This is also a good opportunity for everyone to spend their easter break travelling around NZ after the event.

Estimated budget:

Airfare inclusive airport tax: 400 AUD
Participation fee: 200 NZD (covers accommodation, food, transportation, opening, clsoing dinner and all activity expenses for the whole 3 days).

However MASCA QLD will definitely subsidise their QLD participants with or without any sponsors. The amount is yet to be confirmed.
Attached is also the poster for the event and the event tentative. Please contact us for any inquiries.

For interested parties please submit your name and sports that you wish to participate to this email before the 7th of March 09. Looking forward to hear from you guys.

Thanks guys,
